Timber Frame Homes / The GREAT Room.
This timber frame home features a classic saltbox design with native hemlock timbers and traditional joinery.
The great room tends to be the focal point in the timber frame design. This one is very pretty.
Love the contrast between the light walls and the weathered timbers. Great job Vermont Timber!

Christmas Time in your Great Room
Have you ever been watching one of the Christmas shows with the family sitting around their 20' tall, decorated Christmas tree in their Great Room. The timber posts wrapped in greenery and mistle toe hanging from one of the beams and you say to yourself what a beautiful room. Well even though some things in the movies are not real, having your own Great Room is. Let us here at VTW give you a timber frame home that will make you feel like you are in the movies.

Bring on the snow, we'll gather in the timber great room!
Somebody crank up that wood stove, we have SNOW in the forecast! Nothing is better than relaxing on the couch while your wood stove (or fireplace) warms your timber frame.
The wood beams create a warmth on their own, but you need more than that in New England!

Great Room and a Great Weekend
How about taking the long weekend and start planning your great room addition? I think that is a GREAT idea.
I have a timber truss project planned for my personal great room addition. Doug has given me a sketch and I can't wait to get started. Since my home is conventional framed, I feel the great room can't be a full timber frame. Transitioning needs to well thought out, as I may need to add timber accents to the existing areas.
If you are planning a great room addition or a timber frame addition of any kind, give a call. We would love to hear from you. 802.886.1917

Decorative Timber Beams...
Take a look at these hand hewn maple beams (great job MJ)! Decorative timber beams that will create a mantle on a project in Brooklyn, NY. 10ft across the front, and then 2 5ft pieces mitered at the corners as returns. I'm sure this is going to be something else. The hand hewn beams will arrive on jobsite with out a stain as they are going to be custom finished to match the kitchen cabinetry. Thanks to Carmel at Bjorn Bjornsson Design for thinking of Vermont Timber Works for this custom mantle project!

MORE Great Room Trusses in Douglas Fir Timber
These douglas fir timbers will soon be a modified hammer beam truss, installed in a beautiful Connecticut home. 4 Great Room Trusses to be exact.
Can you picture it? Vermont Timber Works very own MJ and Todd sand and finish the douglas fir timbers before any assembly begins. Imagine trying to stain the trusses after the assembly, no thank you.
Before the stain...
And after. Our clients chose Minwax # 225 Red Mahogany, I think they'll love it.
Below is a typical sketch that we send our clients with our preliminary proposal. Official timber frame shop drawings and engineering begins once an order has been placed.

time to ship some great room trusses
Many times Vermont Timber Works can ship great room trusses fully assembled. This makes the install on job site much quicker and easier. MJ and Jason worked carefully with our GMH Transport driver and loaded 11 custom designed and handcrafted great room trusses.
Guiliano Trusses are douglas fir timbers and Artzt Trusses are eastern white pine timbers. Both joined with traditional mortise and tenon joinery.
Looks to be just about loaded, hey MJ, watch out for Ruby!
The truck loading experience usually includes watching out for Ruby (and Kramer) who both make a point of being in the way. Barking at the trucker the entire time!
Ready? Let's get these great room timber trusses on the road.
Jason, stop goofing around!

Douglas Fir Great Room Trusses
Here we have another beautiful douglas fir timber truss for the Guiliano Residence. Traditional joinery, hardwood pegs cut flush and take a look at those finials. It took more than Kellin and Jason to stand this truss up!
Douglas fir in free of heart spec, planed & chamfered timbers, just gorgeous. Heavy timber construction and timber trusses are not often referred to as furniture...but what the craftsmen at Vermont Timber Works create is awfully close.
This will be a wonderful addition to the Guiliano great room.
