Beautiful Timber Trusses headed to Stowe, VT

Three more 52ft long double chorded douglas fir trusses headed to the new Spruce Peak Timber Frame Lodge in Stowe, VT. Loading these custom designed trusses is interesting to watch. Kellin is running the Lull, Mikey in the forklift, holding the 3rd truss up as the truck backs into place. Doug is on the truck along with Jason and James...Mike and Todd are helping also. Careful guys!

These trusses are separated carefully by blocking and will be tarped for the ride. Oversize trucking permits were needed on this load. Thank you GMH Transport!

Timber Ceiling Beams & Decorative Posts by VTW

Sometimes just some timber ceiling beams can do wonders for a design. Not a full timber frame, but decorative heavy timber here and

there...

or maybe there?

Very nice Vermont Timber Works! If your budget doesn't allow for a custom hand crafted full timber frame, or if maybe you just don't want one (WHAT?) I know, I know it happens. If you like the look of the timber beams and posts, we can incorporate them into your design as you wish.

The greatest great room of all...the timber great room.

Well, that's our opinion at least! Here are some timber great rooms that we, Vermont Timber Works have had the pleasure of building.

What do you think of our arched hammer beam? It's definitely a favorite. Maybe a truss design that is more rustic is to your liking?

How about our modified king post? Shown below in beautiful douglas fir, just gorgeous. Notice how this king post design sits higher in the space, creating extra height (and more complex engineering)!

Heavy Timber Truss Design # 5

Beautiful Rough Sawn Douglas Fir Girder Trusses for the Double Tree Hotel Porte Cochere in Tarrytown, NY.
The stone work really sets off the timbers and this design is gorgeous. Note the curved braces and webs. We have some rough photos and soon plan on a professional photo shoot.

The Timber Great Room & Kitchen Ceiling...

The great room and the kitchen area, many times the center piece of your home. At Vermont Timber Works we are very willing to work with you on your great room. Maybe some timber beams for your kitchen ceiling? Here are some ideas...

Timber entry way? Very cute, I love it. You do not have to build a full timber frame to get the timber frame feel. Sometimes a full frame isn't in the budget and at Vermont Timber Works, we understand.

Heavy Timber Truss Design #4

My personal favorite....

Our traditional Hammer Beam Truss! The design comes from the old style cathedrals in Europe and the United States. It is a beautiful choice with its graceful center arch. The Breed Residence uses a classic hammer beam truss in the living room. It works well as the loads are transferred to surrounding walls and roofs. Sometimes we add a steel rod that will act as a tie.

Heavy Timber Truss Design # 3

Our very pretty SCISSOR truss...

Not as structural as the King Post or the Queen Post, this truss design will add height to your great room. The steel shown on this truss is purely decorative and our joinery pegs are cut flush. Gorgeous!

How about a Scissor Truss for a commercial heavy timber project? Sounds great!

This double chorded scissor truss design is supported by a steel super structure and spans 60 feet. Yes, I said 60 feet!

Whether you are thinking residential or commercial, big heavy timber project or small, Vermont Timber Works is the timber framer for you.

Heavy Timber Truss Design # 2

The Queen of the Trusses!

Queen Post Trusses are very similar in design to king post trusses except that the interior of the truss has two vertical posts instead of one central post. They are a very beautiful design and offer an open area in the middle of the truss. Queen post timber trusses can easily span 30 feet or more when they are spaced about 12 feet apart.

Here is our Queen Post Bent in Douglas Fir. The Queen Post design for this gable end was the best choice due to the window layout.
